I agree.
I have a number of different varieities, there are slight similarities, but they are so close, and almost look the same.
I've never seen a graft, but doesn't mean they don't exist. I have found as well that they trunk up very quickly and with great character. but then again, I'm in south FL and if you put a 2x4 in the ground, it will grow! LOL

Yeah, the threads I was going off of by my "I read that kingsmans are..." comment was from the IBC,they were saying some stuff coming over from China was green island foliage grafted onto other retusas and the label golden coin and kingsman was being used for it. True or not ..? I just wanted to throw it out there for some feedback.

That's interesting about the grafted stuff coming from china. There might be a reason they graft, maybe the varities that are grafted have root issues in china(nematodes etc) and they have other root stock that does just fine. I know that better root stock is usually the reason for a graft, such in roses, maples and citrus.

Anyone been to china or live there or import direct and have real knowledge why the grafts....?

I would guess that maybe it's just becuase I'm so far south that the trunks thicken so quick from a cutting and grafts aren't necessary...
