She's a bonsai lover for sure and actually has more years around the trees than I do (her mommy lived in Japan and had trees long before I did). It's actually a large lake in the northeast. We sit about 250 up off the water on a cliff. All of our trees are on the deck so they get great south facing light and great humidity, not to mention the "breeze".

Other than drinking muddy rain water off the deck the kitty is not fond of water. Fortunately for her there is about 250-feet of cliffs to bounce down before she'd hit the water. The deck at it's lowest point is over 20-feet to the ground so she hasn't tried to make the leap yet.

Well, cats are curious, but also fortunately quite intelligent, so i doubt he'll make the jump
I have yet to find a catr that is fond of water, apart from a bred called Turkish Van, which sounds like some foreign delivery service... ![]()

So far UP is more of a problem than down. She uses our bonsai screen to climb up on the roof and walks around up there which we not fond of.

What a beautiful place! I bet the winters are fierce, though!

Winter...yes it does get fairly fierce. Actually our location makes most of our plants behave more like zone 4 or 5 than the normal 6. As an example most of the daffodils where I work (10 miles south) are almost done. Only a few of ours have even started to open.
We've had winters with 110+ inches of snow and some with less than 20. Typically the lake effect gets us more. 2 weeks ago we had 14-inches of snow and again where I work 10-miles away had less than 2. Fortunately for the trees they winter in my unheated garage so they are well protected. Fortunately Summers more than make up for it. Last edited by wmcorcor : 14-Apr-2005 at 12:24 PM. |

We do keep all of the bonsai on the deck shelves but it has a great built-in drip-irrigation system that takes care of them regardless of the windy or sunny conditions.

Nice thought. Little bastards do it at night. These are not feral cats, but neighbours cats. If I knew who they belonged to I could go and bitch about it... Jerry
