Famous bonsai trees - wanted!

I am planning to publish few articles in one croatian magazine, about some of the world greatest bonsai trees. It is hard to sort out such trees, and determin right criterion... anyway help would be apreciated...

Maybe these are some of them:
1. Goshin - John Naka
2. Hiroshima survivor, Japanese white pine
3. Pinus mugo - Walter Pall
4. Olea europea - Angel Mota

I am searching for good tree with a story...

Are you limiting the list to Western bonsai? There are quite a few "famous" trees in Japan that are relatively unknown outside that country.

marija,

Here is some info on the white pine. This was the condition of the same tree on January 19, 2005. The information placard is for it as well.

Hope this is helpful.

John

How about the war survivor maple (I think) at the Weyerhauser exhibit? I'll see if I can get some info on it. It was mentioned during a slideshow at our meeting Monday. The roots had grown through the pot and burst it and so it was one of very few trees that survived while the owners were away. Matt, help me out-do you know the one I mean?

Here's one. Seventh pic down

http://www.shohin-europe.com/PHOTOS...05takeyama.html

This spiral jinned tree is famous for it's well, spiral jin. It has appeared in many bonsai publications. The jin supposedly suggests a dragon rising to the heavens (at least that's the explanation I've seen a couple of times). This is but one of the "famous" trees in Japan.

Oh, by the way, you planning on getting permission to use some of these photos? It may be necessary

Michelle, I remember seeing the that Maple, a Trident if I remember correctly. I believe the story is that the man (a Japanese-American) who was taking care of it was "interned" during the war. The rest is as you said.

I found it, here it is:
