Failed airlayer attempt

Earlier in the Summer, I attempted to airlayer my Brazilian Raintree. After about two months, I didn't get anything....zero roots. As a matter of fact, the bark grew over the area where I originally cut. I know that I cut deep enough and wide enough, but I was unsuccessful.

Soon, I'll have my Raintree in a South facing window along with 110W cf bulbs as a light supplement. If my tree is in an old aquarium (for humidity), should I give it another shot? Also, any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

Start the airlayer at the beginning of spring just after the buds open. Wrap a length of medium to heavy weight wire just below the top cut and just above the bottom cut. This should prevent any bark creeping. Also make sure that "all" the cambium is scraped very clean. Leave no trace to get a foothold. Yes you can try again. Better luck this time!

Cheers, Al

I've done airlayers before, but never using wires to block the growth of the outer layer (it makes perfect sense). I was going to just take the branches as cuttings, but I've had very little success with 'old growth'. I've had a success rate of about 75% with new growth, but only about a 10% success rate with older growth.

Once my Raintree has adjusted to the indoors, I'll give it another shot. Thanks.
