Explaining Watering

I had an interesting evening yesterday. I was out watering my trees, as the rain was getting ready to fall at any minute. One of my neighbors yelled across the street "You know it's supposed to rain right Adam?" I kinda chuckled and yelled back "It won't be enough for my trees" in response I get a "It's enough for them big ones" So I finished watering the trees in need, and walked to the end of my driveway. She was looking at me like I was crazy and asked how the rain couldn't be enough for my "little baby" trees yet enough for the big ones. This started a conversation that attracted her husband, and their next door neighbor. After about 20 minutes of trying to make them understand about the difficulty of proper watering, and how it needed to be done even though it was going to rain. I think I got my point across and thought they understood, so I take a long drink of my Corona (it was after all sinco de mayo) and was promptly replied with "That still doesn't change the fact that you're insane"
Couldn't argue with that

Happy belated Cinco de Mayo!

Have you noticed that the drip line for lots of mature bonsai is outside the pot? The soil hardly gets wet at all, unless there's a downpour!

Regards,

Matt

True and with a couple of my trees it takes quite a bit to get the water to go through the canopy even when watering with the hose!

Oh well it was fun talking about my trees with them anyway!

Ah, but being a native of Mass. I know that you are dealing with the frugal puritan who believes in "waste not, want not". We tend to be quite stubborn about that. So you can explain until you are blue in the face and they will never understand. But you have been having quite a wet Spring, have you not? Just curious.

Moni,
Yes we actually broke a record in April for the most rain, and I spent one lovely evening bailing out a portion of my basement. So far this month has been a bit dryer, and we have been able to see this crazy looking really bright light in the sky that I seem to faintly remember seeing before.

There's this saying in Portugal which goes:
"Em Abril,
águas mil."
which translates as:
"In April,
a thousand waters."
And it's funny because logicaly it should rain less in April than in March, but when it rains...

...Man, it does rain!!!
