Excited about GSBF
The Golden State Bonsai Federation convention is November 2nd - 6th, 2005, the website is here. It is held in Anaheim, California...home of Disneyland... and looks like a super line up of stars!
This will be my first convention and I can hardly contain myself!! YIPPEE!! I signed up for two workshops, and plan to spend all four days in bonsai heaven! Who else is going, and would everyone like to meet at some point? Just to say hello and maybe have a nice lunch or a drink. It would be wonderful to see people who are usually only "voices" on the computer. Bonsainut, Robert, and Bob, are you coming? Peter? John? Sure would like to hear from everyone! Joanie

And is anyone bringing anything to SELL? Specifically, a well developed non-conifer that would do well in a coastal climate with lots of love and attention and is within a few years of being a REAL BONSAI? That you want to have a good home with someone who wants so badly to have good trees

I will take 3 of my smaller olives to the convention to find matching pots for them. These trees are small enough so that I can just take them to the vendors' area and experiment with various options.
I am looking forward to it. |

Joanie,
As far as finding high quality deciduous bonsai candidates, don't worry. These conventions have vendors with great trees and reasonable prices. Just don't forget your wallet. I will be happy to browse with you for a good choice. |

I'll be there. I'm reminded of one of my mother's sayings: "The good lord willin' and the creek don't rise".

Congrats Joanie,
A wise decision. Your eyes will be opened to the real world of bonsai. Dale P.S. Sorry, I won't be there....2,500 miles in a big van @ $3/gal gas!! Some day I seriously need to check into that one.

Awesome, Mike! It'll be great to meet you!! After admiring your trees online for almost a year... now to meet the "man behind the curtain"
![]() Did you guys want to try to get together as a group, or is it just too hard at these conventions (where it looks like there's a lot to do all the time) Suggestions?? Dale, I've been looking forward to this so much! The REAL world, eh? Where you can smell the leaves and the damp soil, and see for yourself what stories the trees can tell you.... where you can sit in bliss, listening to people who have had more trees and learned more about bonsai than you can imagine... oh, yes...... Joanie

That'll work, then! Any hints for a first timer? Other than bring lots of money, a good camera, and a big grin?
Joanie
