Good luck and keep us posted.

PS: Apologies for the PhotoShop work - I've got a nasty cold and I think it might be affecting my better judgement... No offense intended.

Hmmm...maybe dinosaur eggs .

Thanks for your kind remarks Bri, Mark, Matt, Patrick, Jeff, and David.

I would never have expected the tree to look good this grown out, but I must say it does. I had trouble envisioning Walter's virtual, yet now that I compare the current tree to his second virtual, they are quite similar...and honestly I like what I see with the current tree. Walter, next time you make a suggestion I am going to listen without question .

New Fence,

Lol Dale. In all fairness, the new fence was a necessity after the hurricanes knocked our old one over. After the first hurricane had knocked down about a quarter of the fence, my dad spent the following week rebuilding it only to find it knocked down by the second hurricane. I told him if he had listened to me and procrastinated, he would have been a lot happier.

You forgot to add to the list- New automatic watering system.

I'd say I'm SEVERAL years older than his dad...but....if he wants to adopt me and my trees I promise I'll let him spoil me.
I need a new car also!

This is really hard to believe, but the day after I brought my bougainvillea back from EPCOT, I took the next out of the tree and threw it over the fence (the eggs were not going to live anyways)....and when I looked today, another mockingbird has built a nest in the same spot!

It's KARMA....fate....the tree WANTS a family of birds in it.

Go with the flow, Charles.

That is truly an inspiring and fantastic tree.

Charles,
MANY years ago, at my other house/garden I had a Austrian Pine about 2 1/2 ft tall which I was thinking of chopping to one lower branch and completely restyling. For about two days when watering I kept noticing "trash" in the tree so I threw it out onto ground. Third day there was a nest, mother Cardinal and eggs in that spot. I was really suprised since it was only about 4 1/2 feet off ground with bench and constanly watered. Anyway, every time I watered she flew off then came back. Eggs hatched, birds all grew up and flew away.
Too late to chop!
Next season tree sat in same spot and ( I'm assuming) the SAME CARDINAL did it again. This time the neighbor cat got wind and every morning I'd find the mom still there but a few feathers around, After a couple days, no mom...lots of feathers and the eggs just sat in next. Sad.
I was really shocked at not only building the nest so close to me and ground but doing it again the next year!
Dale

I have never had a nest in my trees, although we've got a lot of birds in the backyard and they frequent the bonsai garden. They like to perch on the fence posts and the trees.

Anita told me that one year when she was volunteering at the National Arboretum that a bird made a nest in the Yamaki Pine. Granted, it's a big tree and there would be plenty of space for a bird to have a secluded nest. They left it there for the season.
