I'm prepared to like whatever I get, but won't pretend that it's anything other than my best effort to do things as I see them in "Bonsai Today", but which I've fallen lamentably short of.

Just about the only one you have to impress with your trees is YOU. Why bother with more unless you are going into the bonsai business or entering a judged show.
It is a hobby. Enjoy it ;o)

Chirs.
Still studying your tree. Haven't forgotten.
Can you post a picture of it from the top and also one from the side.
Hate to be a pain but I just need more information

top view.

The first branch on the left can be moved downwards, to form the lower right section of the candy shape. That's about all I can come up with myself, apart from pruning heavily and do a series of seperate foliage pads spaced out all over. Anything else you can see or suggest will be a great help.

With regard to you thoughts on the 3 attributes, number 3 I can do. Not neccessarily websites, but I can definitely help with how to manipulate photos and upload them.

If you can let me know what software you use to deal with your photos, I should be able to tell you how you can use it to have nice big pictures with a small file size.

Regards,

Chris / TB

Since this thread has changed into a general elm showing thing here is my Chines elm.
It is for a change in the neoclassical style. This means it is styled to conform to classical ruees, to basically look like a conifer does. I would not do it again, but I am not going to change the tree.
Ironically it wins a lot of awards whenever it is exhibited. Nobody wants to hear that this is NOT MY TASTE ANYMORE.

best regards
Walter Pall

This is a HIllieri-elm. It is a garden variety of the European Field Elm, Ulmus campestre.
It is also in the neoclassical style.

These are great trees, Walter. I especially like the first one. I agree with you that elms should be styled more according to their natural growth habit, with upward sloping branches. BUT, if one feels the need to make elms look like conifers then I think that first tree is as good as they come. I've got a hunch that you like it too, otherwise you would have gotten rid of it by now. ;-)
