Huh? Drift Wood Treatments?

drift wood treatments

can anyone recommend brands and techniques for the preserving and bleaching process for drift wood? in Colin Lewis's book he mentions soaking the drift wood in a wood preservative that is safe for plants but doesn't mention the brand name and type. i also bought and used pure lime sulfur on the wood many times but it will not achieve a white and remains a light blue grey. is there a particular brand of lime sulfur that is best?

thank you

la

i've already read everything i could find on it but nothing goes into detail enough as whether the preservative is safe for plants or brand for sulfur and especially technique specifics.
thanks though

Minwax wood hardener is frequently used on bonsai - as is bondo as a wood filler.

Lime sulfur is a chemical you can find as a dormant /antifungal spray (read the bottles)

Some guy always has some on eBay too. Try alternate spellings for sulfur/sulphur

or you can make your own

Spraying or painting the wood with water prior to the application of Lime Sulfur can help its penetration.

Cover the pots and soil to protect them from staining.

I have used gitrot, west epoxy and minwax wood herdener all safely for the plants. IMHO, the epoxy penetrates better the minwax, as a single component, is easier to use

A couple recent posts had me thinking about your problem again. I wasn't sure if your deadwood was actually dead, or wood that you had recently stripped and exposed of bark. If it's recently done, the wood hasn't fully dried it probably won't accept the solution. It needs to dry for a 2-3 of months before it will begin to penetrate well. This depends on the climate to some degree.
