Does everyone prune roots annually?
On vigorous rooters like elms, maples, and OLIVES, do you root prune EVERY year or wait until there are some signs like rising soil or something?
I have some stressed maples that I root prune every year, but this year's weather is taking a toll. Although the pots are full of roots, the trees are not liking this quick 107 degree heat from a late, cool spring. Watering has also become very tricky. Having to judge EACH tree before giving water as one especially is not utilizing the water well at all. |

Elms and maples almost always will suffer branch die-back if they are not root-pruned yearly.
Your trees are just suffering from the heat. Jerry
