Dishonest Bonsai Books?

i dont know how often this happens in books, but it just kinda caught me off gaurd when i was looking through my "The Complete Book of Bonsai" by Harry Tomlinson hardcover. everyone grab your copy and flip to page 48, with the representative of the broom style tree. take a good look at the zelkova serrata broom example, and you'll notice that the trunk has been photoshopped to double it's thickness!! is this deceitful or is it just a shortcut? you'd think harry tomlinson would be able to scrounge up a decent broom for a book. has anyone noticed this in other books?

Even your best rag will do it....Bonsai Today has made me do the double take on a few pictures.....tho I might give them credit, they will occasionally note that they edited the photo. (in small print mind you).

I might add that I dont think it is too dishonest, just an ez way to get a visionary point across. my opinion only.

thinking about it, i dont think it's as much dishonest as it is just lazy, in the tomlinson book's case. he has a ton of trees, i find it hard to believe that he doesnt have a broom that doesnt need to be doctored oh well....

I think, if you talk to authors, you will find that many of them are distressed about their lack of influence on the choice of illustrations.

An illustration or a photograph is only there to show a point. The words written on the page are more important.
You have to learn how to tell the difference.
Ask yourself. Did the photo portray what you needed to see ?
