G'day folks,
Along with my Aussie Bottle tree [Brachychiton populneum] I also received a mature Japanese Diospyros Kaki [Persimmon] [not bonsai'd], anyone with experience of growing this tree. Like for instance, will it back-bud as does a Malus [Crab-apple]? Over here it is about mid autumn [fall] so should I wait until spring before I prune the branches back, or can I do it now, there are still a few very healthy, bright-green leaves about, and any other knowledge will be greatly appreciated. It will bud from every orifice, if it has a reason to. I hacked out several from the growing grounds and they are bursting back from the roots about four months later.
If you prune now, you will induce growth in a couple of months that may not be frost hardy. So I would wait until leaf fall. Regards, Matt
