bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Deja vu or did I just say that?

Being an active reader of many different bonsai forums on the web, I have noticed a trend that is slightly bothersome. It seems that a few people will post the exact same thread on many different forums.

Do these people think that...

1) It will get more answers this way?

2) It will get better answers this way?

3) It will be seen by more people this way?

Personally, I find it humorus when I go to different forums and see the exact same threads started on other forums.

I think it would be fun to answer them all and link to all of them as well, something like the diagram below. (The blue lines being the link direction)

I've noticed that too. I think it may be a combination of #1 & 3. Maybe it's sort of like getting a second opinion from a doctor? Or maybe they're trying to get as many opinions as possible, although that could get confusing, especially when it comes to styling.

Will, I think your questions are in fact the answers. Those that post on several boards are trying to get the greatest universe of possible answers.

In addition there are those who only go to one board regularly and if you wish to reach of all these people you need to enter your thread on all of them

Thats my two cents.....from one who recently only posts to one board and not very often at that

Jay

Part of the cause for multiple postings is the frustration of not having any response to your post. All of us can help decrease this trend by promptly responding to posts whenever possible.

You said it exactly Jay!

Will, why is trying to learn from several different sources so funny to you?(by the way, when you use the word "humorous" I am assuming you are implying "odd" or something similar to that) You talk of always wanting to learn as much as possible. I don't think that is funny...in fact I think it is very wise. How much better is it then to learn as much as one can from many different sources? Even if it means posting something more than once to do it?

I have been substitute teaching for a little while now. If I ask a question or show a picture to one group of students in the class I will get a totally different discussion from a different group who is asked an identical question or shown an identical picture. I think it is the same way with people posting the same things on different forums.

Travel Repeat---Repeat

1) 2) & 3) Probably, but could it be a fear of flying, making the wrong decision based on the answers given by say, this site, as opposed to all the others where they ask the same questions? What i would find hilarious is if the same people answered the same questions on all the other sites in an identical way. We could then expose them all as 'channel flippers', without any real substance.
Personally I just stick with Bonsaitalk as there is enough confusion right here without adding anything. (Only kidding Matt) However it is an interesting observation Will.
Kind regards Ash

Funny... because I imagine a hundred people just like me, seeing the same thread four times on four different forums.

Hit the "New Posts" button and you have to ask yourself if you actually switched forums, lol.

Will

Now, hold on a second, I know for a fact that for at least three years I was strictly a bonsaitalk goer. No other bonsai related forum ever crossed my eyes. And I know that I can't be the only one...HA!
