Really wished I had some answers for you but larch is a tree that grows in a colder climate then mine. If I knew more about where you are located maybe I could point you in the right direction to find someone to help you out.

Sorry no secrets intended, I'm close to the Columbia River in WA. about 50 miles north of Portland.The larch in question came from eastern WA. about 3000' el. and quite dry

I think there's a little confusion on taxonomy and the subject of 'deciduous conifers'. I guess I should save most of it for another post, but let me just say that Ginkgo are indeed not conifers, but they are gymnosperms. Confused? Okay let me start another thread. This is going to get vulgar.
