Two that come to mind are the Ginkgo and the cypress. And yes you can on both of them.

I wouldn't be surprised. Specific names are changed so often that they are about as much use as the common name.
Even a juniper is not a juniperous anymore. It is now an X-media. Go figure.
Scary isn't it.
But for now I'll have to go with what is in most of the textbooks. I just cant keep up with those guys that have a DR. preceding their names ;o(

Ron:
That forest is really a beauty to behold... You forgot to put your pack of cigarettes in the picture so people are not aware of the fact that this is a six man forest!!!!

We should clarify this.

You can chop a swamp or bald cypress and perhaps also a pond cypress; I don't know about the latter. These Taxodium species are deciduous and not true cypresses (or even true false cypresses ).

Don't chop a true cypress Cupressus sempervirens (which, from its name, clearly is not deciduous) or a false cypress Chamaecyparis with the sort of abandon you would use on a maple or other deciduous tree.

Best regards,
Carl

Larch Chop?

So What about Larch, specifically Western.I collected a few about 10 years ago, and one of them has escaped its pot and is 12' tall with about a 3" trunk. What is the likelyhood of buds sprouting on the lower trunk where there appear to be none?
Until I saw this thread I planned to set it free on our property.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Pond cypress reacts similiar to the Bald .. sometimes it doesn't seem as vigorous with as many new branches but in time they do..
Haven't lived long enough in a climate for Larch ..
