Cutting Fig Leaves.
i have a book and i found something interesting, it says some stuff about cutting fig leaves in half. any1 know what this does?

I think the idea here is to perform defoliation in order to reduce leaf size but to do it in a way that the tree is stressed less severely than in complete leaf removal.

Jerry hit the nail on the head for the reason why they do this.
Ficii (or ficus??, Jerry would know) can handle a lot of torment, though. For this reason, I prefer just to completely defoliate them.

im not using a benji variety, mine is a native fig to australia. port jackson fig or ficus rubiginosa is the scientific term.

Is that your tree posted above...or just a pic of a nice 1.....if its yours..can you tell me a little more about it? Dimentions etc, how long in training.

F.rubiginosa tolerates defoliation very well. I defoliate mine, which is under grow lights, twice each year.
