I dont know about candle wax. You can use childrens clay (the kind that stays soft and comes in many colors (plasticine?), NOT play dough).

Anything that will prevent moisture loss, and little critters from getting into the wound would help. I have heard everything from modeling clay, paint, elmers glue, and everything in between. From what I have been able to pick up, actual cut paste has additives to aid in faster healing.
If you go HERE You can not only get your cut paste at a reasonable price, but you would also be supporting this forum.

Quit trying to reinvent the wheel and buy good cut past from Matt.
This stuf sounds expensive until you see how well it helps wounds on your tree to heal, then all of a sudden it looks more reasonable.

If you use the putty in the tub (Not the stuff in a tube!!! ), it will pop off when it is time. At that time you can check the rate of healing, and if you need to work on the callus a little more, do it again.
