Crab Apple Sergentina???
well i think that is how you pronounce that...
but anyways, i have this as a tree...and there is a pretty good little meaty sprout that grew off of one of its seeds....its pretty close though ..but i might wanna go in for the grabe..but dont know how ...and when i should? Im getting some super thrive soon ...incase i might need that ..but could someone tell me when to go in for the kill ( its about 1inch away fomr the parent plant ..and im pretty sure it is its own plant ...so pretty close) but how should i do this and when ...I already have a little pot and fert mixxed up for it when i grab it ..but i just need a lil info...thanks ( and info on the species...someone said i am lucky cus it has the smallest leafs of any other crab apple...anyways thankd for anyhelp_

Most likely it is Malus sargentii 'Tina', a very small cultivar of the species M. sargentii. It could be a seedling, but more likely it is a sucker, that is, a bud break from a root. It's actually better if it is a sucker because seedlings take on the order of twenty years to mature and flower, while suckers or root cuttings are capable of flowering and fruiting in a year or two. To harvest it, wait until late winter. Remove the soil from around the sprout to locate the attached root. Remove the root with the sucker with enough attached root to support the existing growth. I do this a lot, and most my root separations survive. 'Tina' is notorious for root suckering. Brent |

well u gotta understand i live in minnesota..lol
so late winter will be [*PLEASE!*] Freezing! so is there any other time i could do this ..before or after winter? and how should i do it.

You can do anytime the plant is dormant, but the best time is just before it leafs out in the spring. I think I pretty much outlined how to do it above, what else would you like to know? Brent |

so do it just befor e the leaves come back ..alright..well i was wonderig if i could do it sooner if super thrive or fish emulsions were added to help keep the plant alive and a better chance so i dont have to freeze in the winter lol
