This sounds more like a who can shop the best contest.

My teenage daughter will win.

Bonsai nursery or regular nursery? Bonsai nusery would be a big advantage, If you could find somthing decent for 20.

Wheels are turning...

I'm confused, not too hard to do because I'm a newbie! I agree with Marsha more info please. What's this contest, are there rules, sounds like fun - but can a new "bonsai nut" participate and have any chance to place among the winners or runners-up??

Thanks,
Lesley

I bought a $2 bald cypress... But, I don't know if it will qualify, since I could chop it when bought it, I mean about 2 months ago, and now am waiting for ramification, but we said, it shlould be "inmediate bonsai" right? So, I don't thinkg I'll go in...

ok... I'll see if I can get some new material...

Contest info

Hi Everyone,

Just to refresh everyones mind, the contest began as a discussion here in the early winter. You will have to read thru the link a bit to get to the point of the contest.

I for one am looking forward to getting into this, however the Arctic Simulator is still actively running. I dont foresee the nurseries getting active til April.

When is the deadline?

Paul

Same up here, too. For now it seems the spring ain't coming at all, only the occasional sunny days tell me there's something happening in that direction.
As for the nurseries, they're mostly closed till march here, so I guess I'll just have to skip the contest.
No hard feelings, however, I wouldn't have won anyway.

Calm down Zeb...

The contest isn't going to be until April, from what I remember. Unless you're in sunny California or Florida, there's nothing to be had at any nurseries right now. Where I live, we're going from low teen temperatures one day, to a bit of warm sun the next.

As for winning or not...it's always nice if it happens, but it will mainly be fun and interesting to see what trees people obtain, and how they choose to style them.

some sort of clarification of rules may be in order, from those that are making them. Are we restricted to general run-of the-mill garden centres, or can we use bonsai nurseries and get a head start? How early can we start the process? Could I use a plant I purchased 6 months ago? 3 months ago? Bought this year? Just asking. Someone buying now will have a much better looking tree than someone starting in April, if the deadline is May for example.

Regards,

TB
