Collect Larch For Virtuals #3
Here is a third collected larch, however not a part of the Five year Plan thread.
It is an informal upright of sorts. I hope the pics give you some things to work out with it. Virtuals if possible are greatly appreciated. Paul

da backside, which show excellent taper. Would be a great front, however in picture number two above. The story of the tree is shown. Jin in the middle etc needs to be a focal point. How would you work this tree......work on the original front with the main trunk broken, two leaders scramble for the sun, yet the dominant one on the left strives. The right side? Jin down half way? all the way? Remove it, and jin the original main trunk split off
....what options....Then again....look at this backside. Paul

Hi Paul..
at first i saw quite a trunk chop but felt that was to easy I went with the jin/shari as a focal point. Not having any experience working with larch, i've worked the basic line. Whaz u tink?

Hey Tom, looks nice all clean up....I also would go for the jin and shari as the focus.. I am doing a virtual along the same as yours...
The Larix decidua/laricina is an amazing species. Back buds easily and all over so it is easy enough to get a branch near where you need one. Your virtual is certainly obtainable. The left upright trunk catches my eye a little too much...It would be the only thing in your virtual I would change and would jin that down to the first branch. This tree was kept in the forest for four years. Each fall, it would be pruned back some. The first year, my friend Dave took the main trunk and bent it at the middle, breaking it and tearing it down a little. The result is what is seen, giving it a 'story' of sorts. I will try to do a few virts on the remaining two larchs tonight. Paul

I went for the chop, but still keeping the jin as a focal point. The trunkline from the jin to the old apex is rather lengthy. At the top about four to five inches down, you may see a scar healed over. From that point down, it needed something. I believe that something is a chop. So I did this virtual, quickly and rather clumsy.

I began to look at this one by stripping back the important branches. (what I thought were important anyhow.) Here is it stripped to the old wood..
All other virtuals good or bad or even comments would be cool....dont be shy Paul

Hey Tom, another excellent show. The tree had so many branches to go thru, it is hard to pick thru it all. Less is more in your virtual, and in fact, I like it alot. These larches belong to a friend of mine, he collected this one and the others posted. I had the priviledge to go to his secret "yard" this year. I have collected some nice larches before, but my success was limited. I was taught a better collection practice. Thank you for your time.
Paul
