Cold, Cold in SO CAL
OK for all of you northerners if it gets below 50 we freeze. Or at least i do. A lot of us are wimps for the cold. I was scurrying to get my tropicals and sub-tropicals indoors. For you guys who live out here, Joanie, Brain, Cindy, Chris and anyone else it got down to 31 here in Fallbrook. It ranged from 29 to 35 in different parts of San Diego county. Good Lord! Ice was on my windshield of my car. Its the end of the world or maybe I am just in a panic. I must have 20 trees in my kicthen. Joanie how cold was it in Carsbad? East county was very cold.
How do you guys do it in the cold climates? I need to to take medication or a strong drink. And my h House is heated only with a fireplace. ![]() Peace Bob PS I had to put long pants on today!

Send some our way! I'm dying down here in Florida. I bet I have only had long sleeves or a light jacket on once. It must be one of those el-nino la-whatever winters.
Best of luck and keep warm.

San Diego has had as much or more snow then Boston, so far this year!! Crazy! I guess El nino is to blame.

Hah, we have had the shallowest "winter" in years here (so far, we're just getting started) in the Middle Atlantic states. It was over 70 last week and it's headed back to those temperatures now after a quick dip into the high 20's. There is an article in today's Washington Post about how Virginia is the "new" North Carolina-our entire state is now USDA Zone 7--when only a few years ago, we had Zone 6 and even some Zone 5 in the mountains. Species that do well in the South, like camellia and Crape Myrtle are now regular landscape plants here, when only six or seven years ago, planting them was a little risky. There is talk of Needle Palm becoming a landscape plant around here now...

Well when it really gets down here on the Chesapeake. The drink portion of your statement has always lent a bit of comfort. However, this past week has lent it self to T shirts, carving tools and a spot out on the lawn. So no drinking and a makita last week ![]()

Robert, it's been cold here too. That little greenhouse is coming in mighty handy. It has been down in the 30's here at night. And it was so clear yesterday that we could see from Dana Point to La Jolla. We could also see San Clemente Island, something that only happens a couple times a year. Would have been a good sunset to see the Green Flash.
What we're missing, seems like, is our cloud cover. This clear weather is much colder than a nice insulating wet blanket of clouds. There were only about five or ten surfers yesterday, and they were all in serious wetsuits. Usually our beach has more surfers than you can count on a lovely clear day like yesterday was. Surfers... the coastal indicators of weather. ![]() Joanie

Bob for those temps, you wuold most likely find that your trees will like being left out, with only minor protection. I let my ficus', and serrissa's get a couple of minor frosts before putting them in for the winter
You loose some leaves, they will usually flower, then on thru the winter. Most of our club does the same. It's funny, but I can remember going to Fla. for sppring break, and watching the Floridians think we were absolutely nuts for running around in just shorts on 60 degree days, while they wore down coats. We love our 50 degree days in december here in Western Mass. Bill |

*sitting inside my snow cave in Colorado with 60MPH winds and a blizzard outside*
I build snow caves. And I burn the trees that didn't make it for heat. If it gets really bad, I use the old copper wire to kabob the pets. I kid. |
