bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Walter, you have no idea how inspirational I found these pictures. I have a lot of opportunities to collect stumps of Winged Elms, Sugarberry and Hophornbeam along the roadsides where I am and these pictures provide me with a model of where these trees could go. They are spectacular.

Especially considering they were done by a mere hillbilly from the Alps! ;

I'd consider this a clump style.... I took this picture at the Takagi Bonsai Museum in Japan

Walter ,
those trees truely are awsome , especially the second one, is it a maple as well?
reminds me of the trees we used to play around in the schoolyard .

Carp,
thank you, yes, it is a Japanese mountain maple, Acer palmatum.
It is quite big, 3 feet tall.
best regards

Walter, I especially appreciate the before and after pictures. I've found myself returning to them and doing a lot of reflecting on them.

I think it would be cool if there were a gallery of progressive before, during and after shots (leaves on and leaves off), with maybe virtuals to project into the future...

Does this exist anywhere? It's true that it's really educational to see how someone has brought a tree to where it is.
