Club In NorthEast GA

HI you guys when I lived in Phoenix for a short while last year I went to some of their bonsai society meetings, and LOVED it,...now that I am back home in GA,...very near Athens, the University of GA is located, I can find but one bonsai club and it meets at like 2 on a thursday,...there is NO way that I can make it to the meetings as I, like most other people have to work in the middle of the day in the middle of the week,...so I would like to start a group for Bonsai here, either in Athens or somewhere nearby (besides Atlanta, can't stand to drive there) I think there would be some casuall interest from the college students and they might just dabble a bit,...but I don't mind, but there have got to be at least a few more people around who aren't retired that are into bonsai. The thing is this, I can not be any type of instructor or group leader as i'm just a novice with less than two years in thus far,...and i'm not really the "take charge" type,...but I suppose that I could manage some aspects of a club,...it may have to just be more of a Bonsai Learning Community than an actual club that has instructed workshops and that type of thing. I really would love to hear from some of you guys that were or are involved with founding/running a club about how to get into something like this. I have thought of just making up some flyers,...and holding a Pre-formation meeting at some place free like the botanical gardens in Athens but they close kinda early,...maybe a park or some coffee shop, where I could just see if any one else is into it,and we could discuss where we should meet, when, how often, etc. Let me know if you guys think this is a good idea , bad idea, or if you have some thoughts about how to get some folks together. Thanks In advance for any suggestions or help.
Yours in solitary training
Jeremy M.-C.

You might ask the good folks at the Monastery in Conyers (www.bonsaimonk.com) if there's a study group nearby.
We have had some members from the Augusta and Aiken SC areas come to our meetings in Columbia. I don't have contact info for the folks nearer Augusta, however.

Great question.

I've been kicking around the idea of posting notices at local greenhouses just to see if anyone was interested. Might also ask the Botanical gardens if they'd let you post a notice/flyer...I know the one in Indianapolis had bonsai displays somewhat frequently. It's a thought.

thnx

Thanks for the responses you guys,...are there any people here on Bonsaitalk in or around the Athens N.E. GA area? Even just a once a month thing would be great to start with. Also Ron I understand that you are pretty close to Charelston S.C., if there is any chance that you might be in a possition to hire an apprentice or shop helper, let me know. Thanks again you guys.
