Good Lord I owe an apology to Ian. In my stupidity I credited him with something he did not say (see item 9
It was supposed to be Bob that I was responding to.
I guess I should read line two of my answer till I can get it right.
Sorry for the mix up Ian. I should have known better. No excuse for it other than stupidity on my part.

Ron,

No problem at all. This is a fast moving debate, err....target - and we all get mixed up from time to time.

Shall we try to get back to seeing if anyone thinks the term or style "Rustic"
has any place in the Bonsai world.

Anyone with any other thoughts, or shall we put Freds' legacy to bed ?

Best Regards,
Ian.

Sure it has a place. Time will tell where that place is.
Heavens knows the term Naturalistic popped up a while ago and look where that has gone. It is now a respeced bonsai term.
Could be rustic will get there one day. One never knows

It seems to me that the terminology of Naturalistic bonsai and Rustic bonsai are poles apart. One has to do with artistic interpretation that goes past, (or looks back before), the neo-classical style of bonsai design and is concerned with bonsai design that is slightly less formulaic, looks at species growth habits more than the latest green tin-helmet fad, and is less abstract in representation of the subject. The other is simply justification for laziness, sloth and mediocrity.

A fine line in terminology perhaps, but worlds apart in aesthetic content.

Some people seem to have been introduced to the illiterati style...

Fish.

Thanks Fish
I will always remember that you were the first to define the term here.
Me I am willing to wait and see where it goes on its own.

No surprises there then Ron.

Hopefully, once you have shaped the debate by "waiting", you will be able to input usefully to the constructive discussion by seeing where "it goes on its own". I can't wait for these pearls of useful wisdom to pour forth from your enlightened discussion of nothing in particular.

Regards,

Fish.

Seems we don't need Fred to stir things up~lol~

I don't blame Matt for banning Fred,it his forum after all.....but while i don't personally adhere to Fred's philosophy(totally),i do think he has(had) some thought provoking points of veiw. It's a shame that personality and bias and past wrongs(real or imagined) play such a big part in these discussions.Oh well....we are after all human.

humbly,
andy

Someone give negative points to Fish -- he's still talking about bonsai!

At least he's got a good new term.
"Illiterati"
