Never have looked at a bonsai magazine. What options are out there for a monthly magazine with articles and pictures?

I know Bonsai Today is the common reply. You can order a subscription online. But, my personal favorite is the Bonsai Europe English language edition. It is printed in four or five languages and sometimes the translation can be a bit rough, but it is still worth the read and has excellent pics. You can buy select issues through Dallas Bonsai or subscribe online. Both are excellent resources.

Good Luck

Bonsai Kinbon. It is in Japanese, but you don't have to sort it for misinformation or the words of pure, uninformed, amateurs. John

I didn't realize that the Japanese never had 'misinformation'. That must be nice.

There may be plenty of misinformation, but you can't read kanji, so, just go with the pictures. And if there are "morons" whose only experience is cruising the web, you'll nver know. John

I have subscribed to the abs magazine, the bonsai today, and to the international bonsai magazine. Out of the three, I think the International Bonsai magazine has provided the most useful information with the most technical articles. I am anxious to get a couple of copies of the Bonsai Europe magazine and evaulate it as well.

Now that is indeed funny...Thank you for a good laugh this morning Mr. John...However, the truly sad part about this is, those you speak of that get their information from the internet seem to be the ones 'Bonsai Today' are interested in publishing...Or perhaps they are the only ones submitting articles to be published...

The internet is a source of good information for sure, but as most are aware it is also a source of 'bad-information'...It would seem there are those that are paving their way to 'bonsai fame' by using the knowledge and writings of others, re-wording, and getting it published...Some publications seem to be so desperate for something to fill their pages between the advertisements that they are not really concerned about the validity or 'true' source...

It may also be possible that the 'bonsai publications', both books and magazines, that we have known in the past are becoming 'obsolete', and the internet is taking their place...As you stated though, "just go with the pictures"...One can learn much from observing good bonsai and good trees in nature, although one still needs the knowledge of 'technique' to be able to use the inspiration of trees and bonsai...

Much food for thought in those words...Thank you for stating this...

Regards
Behr
