Climate Zones What Do They Mean?
Ok, I know that they give you the minimun temp for a plant.
But what is the maximum temp for a zone? Say a tree is rated at zone 7 which gives you a min temp of 0 to 5 degrees F. what would the max temp be for winter survival? Also at what zone does a tree become tropical? I was just wondering and I am sure others are as well. Thanks -Paul

Not sure that I understand the premise.
A tree typically is rated to a range of temperature zones; not just one. The upper range of the growable zone maybe because the winters aren't cool enough or it may mean that the summer is too hot. Many conifers fall into the latter. |

Isn't that what the heat zone rating is all about?
If you click on the "heat zone" link under your name, you will find Matt's explanation of the whole thing. Joanie Last edited by Joanie : 4-Oct-2005 at 05:18 PM. Reason: additional info |

My questions are
At what point or zone rating does a tree become a tropical/"indoor"? And If a tree is rated for zone 7-10(for example), what would be too warm for the tree over the winter? does this clarify at all? -Paul
