Christmas Rosemary-What about yours?

My wife and I were given a nice little Rosemary Bonsai for Christmas. It's in a decent Bonsai Pot, but it was pretty dry from shipping, and waiting around to be given, I hope that it's ok. The soil looks pretty much like regular potting soil, it will prob need to be replaced once the little guy bounces back.

I did a bunch of research on the species as Bonsai on bonsaiTalk and elsewhere. Here's a quick summary of what I've gathered. Rosemary is a fast grower, but doesn't back bud from hardened branches. It needs well draining soil, and its branches are stiff and brittle once hardened. They assume most any style as Bonsai, and can have great gnarly trunks.

Lots of this info comes from this forum, but what other advice can anyone give me on this species? I'll be posting a pic of mine soon, but I would also like to see how others have styled their rosemary bonsai. If you don't have yours in the gallery or would like to update us on how it looks now I'd LOVE to see some!

Thanks all,

~Justin

Sandi's project from 2001?

yep,

I found those too; they Rock. There are also a few very good specimens in our own gallery. I found a couple adds with good pics too. I'm trying to upload my research to my journal but I can't seem to get it to work... So far I'm most in favor of the informals, leaning and windswept that I've seen. It seems like they look best when emphasizing the trunk.

I’d really like to see how Sandi’s project from back in 2001 turned out (http://forum.bonsaiTALK.com/showthread.php?t=901 ) it seemed like it had some great potential!

I heard from Sandi on PM that that rosemary project didn't turn out as hoped, which is to bad. I've posted my research in my journal here:

Hopefully it will be of use to some others as well. I'm still really interested to hear of anyone else's experience with Rosemary and to see some more bonsai.

Thanks to Old Mister Crow's photo taking tutorial that he just posted it'll take me a little longer to get some "quality" pics of my Rosemary up. It'll be soon though. :-)

I've got a rosemary in the back gerden i've been eyeing up for bonsai all year. It's in a large planter box that the neighbour sent over before she moved. It's only young and seems to have a low-growing habit and flowers galore. Got a huge one growing in the front garden thats really old and hardly ever flowers, but this baby is still going with it's orchid-like baby blue flowers. It was growing in the shadow of a nasturtion which manager to kill off one side of this little shrub, leaving loads of dead branches which i think is cool. I'll post some pictures in the spring once i've potted it up and styled it to see what everyone thinks.
