Chinese Quince Help

My chinese quince is still green, Never decided it was fall and time to prepare foer dormancy. Other deciduous changed and dropped leaves, although one gingko is still holdingout some of its golden beauty. Now went into high twenties last night and staying below 40 all day today. Any thoughts?

David,
Sometimes my Chinese quince never loose all their leaves. Our low so far this fall has been 29 and mine still have green leaves. Nothing to be concerned about, just the nature of the plant.

David,

Mine never does, but I live in a sub-tropical climate.

Peace
Bob

OK Maybe I'm just being paranoid, again. Thanks. I've only had it through one winter and plan on doing a major air layer in the spring to make it a sumo. I do want it to make it.

Thanks, guys for your knowledge.

David,
I checked the trees we have today, about 30 in the ground and 100 in gallon pots: over 60% still have leaves and we have been to 24F - just a little farther north than Frank- and our Parrotias still have fresh growth on em....... Thought htey were all photoperidoic. Oh well. John

I have two Chinese Quince that did not loose their leaves until February or so of last year, is spite of some nights in the teens F! Granted, our average daily high in January is over 50F, we do have some 'winter'. My chinese elms likewise are reticent to let go of their foliage!

David,

Dont' be too concerned about the leaf retention. I still have many trees that still have alot of green leaves left. It's the long warm autumn we've had here in the middle Atlantic area. Leave the plant out in the freezes, don't be too eager to protect it too much. The freezes, as long as they don't get down into the low teens, will tell the tree its time to go to sleep. The green leaves will most likely just get crispy after a few freezes and just drop off.

DO NOT pick the green leaves off. You risk setting off a new round of growth, which could be diastrous.

I, too, can corroborate this. My quince seems to hold its leaves late, as well. Some turned reddish and dropped - some reddish and I helped them a off. A little less than half the leaves left and they are green. I am in MA. Same thing last year.
