Bonsaimon and susieq,
Thanks again for all the information. I will be going to home depot tomorrow to purchase the grinder. I have been reading the threads in this forum for a few months and I must say the advice/suggestions given here are very helpful. Actually I would say, " required reading for all bonsai enthusiasts". I appreciate all that I have learned here. I have books but first hand knowledge is so much better. with appreciation, Virginia (aka JonERae) ![]() |

Maybe better to air-layer some small trees off the top and then chop the whole tree back. Seems like the shape of this elm might be a little off. IMHO.
Good luck, ~Ken |

Hi Jon
Just leave the tree and it will fill out in the scar area. I have often forgot about wire on my trees and the odd coil has cut into the bark. The Chinese Elm has pretty thick bark and you will usually find that the thicker the bark the quicker it will grow and fill the scar area. Andy |
