Chinese Elm Search.....
I am looking to aquire a Chinese Elm that is NOT shaped in that "S" form, looking for something like a broom style or formal upright, is this just unusual for a Chinese Elm, or does anyone know where I can find something like this?
Thanks in Advance!! James |

Broom and informal upright are the styles without the "S" are those that most enthusaists prefer. However, those new to the hobby are often more stimulated by radical curves and movement so there is a market for that shape as well.
You should not have a problem finding Chinese Elm in your preferred style at a reputable bonsai dealer. Although I do not know what you have in your area, or if Ulmus would even thrive there, the internet has provide you options. If you search around the forum, you will find that there are plenty of reputable online dealers that ship. |

Easy enough, just cut the tree, in spring, just before or in the first curve of the "S" shape. Than you can build it up like a broom or formal/informal upright. cheers, Wessel

Brent at Evergreen Gardens has alot of the cork bark varieties of chinese elm, and he ships.
http://www.evergreengardenworks.com/ulmus.htm No radical S curves there. If you are interested in something bigger than the sizes listed in his catalog, email him and ask. Brian

Hi,
You dont' say what part of texas you are in but this place ships if it's to far to drive. From my emails and the words of others Chuck seems to be a fair guy and knows his bonsai. http://www.wimberley-tx.com/~bonsaijg/If you are in the Dallas area??...Dallas bonsai carries bonsais but doesn't ship trees last I heard.

Chinese elms do perfectly fine even here in South Texas. The bonsia nursery in Wimberley is an excellent suggestion. Good luck!

I just got an an ulmus parvifolia with the "s" you are trying to avoid. One solution I have in my plan for this new tree is to airlayer at a desirable point in the curve. If you have any low branches below the airlayer, you may have two tree's to work with. Anyway, Something to think about.
