Re: Chinese Elm Picture.

Shaunn,
Thanks for posting a photo. I know you are proud of this bonsai. The pot is out of the ordinary and a good choice.
The distance from the pot to the first branch is quite large. You might eventually consider an air layer.
Also there seems to be quite a few branches growing from one small stretch of trunk. You need to make some decisions about that or a nasty reverse taper is in it's future.
An Air layer at a point just below the first branch would give you a nice clump and an extra trunk to make a broom with. Just a thought.

This is what I do:

1. Shohin every year in spring

2. Decidious Every two years just before bud break

5 oops 3. Junipers every three years late spring

4. Pines every 4 years early spring as shoots become active

5. Quince, olive, in fall every other year.

6. Bouganvillea, sagopalm, pomegranate, every two years in early summer.

Re: Chinese Elm Picture.

I repot when I can lift the tree from the pot with the rootball and soil intact for inspection. This sounds crazy but it gives me the margin of error that I need to develop the root base that I am trying to create. Lots of roots to pick and choose.

Best regards, Bonsaial
