They have donne very very good, but with spring here and the temps really nice i was wondering if i should move them outside? I also have some bougies that i was wondering if moving them outside would be a good thing?

Hi,
If your night time temps are staying above 60 fahrenheit then it is a good time to start letting them adjust to the real world again. Ch. elm and F. tea are both sun lovers but for the first couple of days many will agree to go with a mix of sun and shade then by the end of the week full sun will be fine. I don't know much about the bougies except they also will be fine outdoors if temps are staying warm.

Certainy Chinese Elm Elm have no problem right down to freezing and quite a few degrees below.
Mine stay outside all year round and I only bring them under cover (not heated) when I know it's going below -5C. Jerry Amsterdam

May I add that the Chinese elm will do much better if it stays out doors until it has been exposed to a couple of freezing nights. Then place it in a protected area, such as a garage for the winter. It will reward you with fantastic budding. I have found that keeping it in doors weakens the tree. It needs that dormancy (about a thousand hours).
The Fukien tea will enjoy the out doors after the over night temps stay above 55 degrees F or 13 degrees C (I think). See below: Fahrenheit (°F) to Centigrade (°C) subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9 Centigrade (°C) to Fahrenheit (°F) multiply by 9/5 and add 32 Bougainvilleas love the sun, and I caution that any tree moved from indoors to the outside should be moved to deep shade and slowly moved into full sun. I do what is called the Bonsai-two-step. I put trees out for an hour or two and then back inside and double the time every day. It is tough, but keeps the trees from getting sun-burned leaves. ![]()

Based on your location, both should go outside already. I am in Atlanta and all my trees have been out for a couple weeks. The Fukiens can take temperatures down to about 45 or so, assuming no high winds or rain (at least mine do). Ficus' tend like it warmer though, so I generally watch them below 50. My Chinese Elms are always outside. I always have pine straw handy in the wintertime to throw on my trees, but haven't used it the last two years. Chinese Elms can take pretty low temperatures. I am in Atlanta though, but SC is generally around the same climate, often warmer. I believe Ron Martin is from SC, he may be someone to talk to... Either way, your elm will be plenty fine outdoors all year, and right now, the Fukien can go out too. Keep an eye out for pests on the Fukien though, they are a pest haven. I use a spray bottle of soapy water and spray all my Fukiens (only have 3) once a week to keep away the pests. Most will say to wait, but I am cautious like that and have had no problems in the last year and a half of doing so... If Fukiens were outdoor trees, I would have 10-15 of them. I love them and the way they grow... Elms would easily be my 2nd favorite along with Black Olives/Azaleas...
