Chamaecyparis Obtusa "Kosteri" URGENT HELP NEEDED (I THINK)
Hey everyone, this is my first post. I hope you don't laugh at my question, but I bought Chamaecyparis Obtusa "Kosteri" bonsai plant a few days ago, and it says that it is to be kept either in full sun or partial shade. As it has been quite hot I've kept it in partial shade, but the thing is, it seems to be drying up but I've been watering it good once a day as the instructions say. Is this normal or did I get jipped and buy a dying plant. Sorry as you can tell I am new to bonsai's so hopefully you can shed some light on the problem. Thanks in advance, Andy

Try placing your tree in plenty of shade, water it twice a day instead and spray the foliage to reduce transpiration. If you go into your user CP in the top left of the screen and put in your details about where you live etc, that would be helpful.

Ok, DO NOT water on a schedule, this is a fairly sure way to kill a tree. Is the soil drying up or is the foliage going crispy? if the soil is drying out too quickly then you will need to water more often, but if the foliage is crisping up then there is a risk that the tree might be dying. Unfortunately because it is a conifer it is difficult to tell right away when it is not feeling so good.
Keep the watering to when the soil begins to dry out which might be once a day or it might be once a week, make sure it is getting plenty of sun (not midday sun, say morning and afternoon or something like that), mist the foliage as often as possible, and perhaps water with a WEAK fertiliser solution. Hope some of that helps. Also, to aid further help, please find out if the soil is very wet all the time, say if its the foliage crisping up and try and give a little bit of history about the plant, e.g. where it was kept in the garden/bonsai centre, whether it came from a garden or bonsai centre etc. Good Luck Rowan [Edit] Also, are those pebbles glued on, if they are, remove them. You might need to repot but i'll let someone with more experience comment on that.

I have read that they handle full sun but its not true, well not Aussie sun anyway. My kosteri got sunburnt this year in December. So I moved to it to a position where it gets direct sun till about twelve o'clock and then filtered sun through trees, and I have had no more burning.
They also like a good draining potting mix and I water the foliage everyday in summer, they seem to like some humidity. I treat my C. obtusa a bit like a Cryptomeria. The two grow next to each other and I treat them identical and they seem OK. The leaves wont recover and they will also turn brown, dont touch them until they a crumbly and fall of at a light touch. It could just be me, but I find C obtusa foliage a bit delicate, seems to brown off on the little tips with to much work. My flabelliformis was always having little shoots die at the tips cause I kept cleaning out old internal foliage that had died from too little light (not a bonsai, just pot plant) Since I've stopped mucking about with it, its been fine.
