I have a German shepard mixed breed that is medium sized. She hates cats, especially the one that sits on the fence all day while we are at work and torments her.

My vote is for using those live traps on the cat owners. If they won't take the bait then whack them over the head with the traps )

I've heard cats hate citrus smells. One of my friends had a problem with cats digging in his flower boxes. He said he put some orange peels on the soil and the cats quit digging in it.

The cayenne pepper should work, too, from what I've heard.

I have no personal experience with having to use either citrus or cayenne, however. Just passing along what I've heard.

As a preamble, I love cats and have two of my own, but after a short while they knew where their place was.

The pepper method worked fine for me. I actually used extra hot chilli powderand have it on authority from our Vet that there is no lasting damage to the cats (or the trees for that matter).
Cats learn very quickly, they still come in to the garden, but they avoid the bonsai trees in pots and the growboxes like the plague. No need to use the powder any more (until the next generation arrives).

Most communities have lease laws and they do include cats.

Hey, Ron, what's the going rate for a cat lease in your area?

Well, if the owners won't do anything about it then I guess you're on your own. I'm torn between the paintball gun idea and the cayenne pepper. I wonder if the two could be combined. Do they make paintballs filled with tabasco sauce? Splat one of those on their little noses and I bet they wouldn't be back!

hehehe Yeah the police have them. I think they call it a pepper gun.. It basically shoots paintball type projectiles that are filled with pepper spray.

Hi Adam_MA,
I've just remembered there is one last resource solution.
If anything else fails you should consider invading Iraq.

Why is it that dog owners are expected to control their animals on leash, or contain them with a fence, but cats owners refuse to take responsibility for their animals? These cats are clearly flea bitten and miserable themselves, but their owners insist that it's cruel to control their movement. They say cats must be allowed to roam.

Rant over. My apologies to all responsible cat owners.

I did a search on CATS and found your thread-I was about to start a thread of my own on this SAME topic! I don't know if I hate my neighbors or their crapping-and-spraying-in-my-bonsai-wintering-area- CATS more!!!

I've truly come to HATE them---and when I say HATE...

I too have talked to the neighbors and they became hostile immediately, DENIED everything I was informing them about concerning their filthy beasts, including the 4:30 A.M. violent mating fight they had under our bedroom window. They have damaged my bonsai, my growing area, and all of my patio furniture with their filthy ways.

Why is it that many cat owners think that three cats aren't enough? My neighbor's cats are NEVER inside their own house...

I think I'm going to get some kind of system to ward them off and GIVE THE SORRY BAS#*@%* the bill....

:::take a deep breath:::

Pootsie, no offense to those cat owners who love and take care of their animals, which I know you do.
