I have been to every Carolina Expo since its inception ( 9 years I think ) Never once in all that time have I ever heard one complaint about photographs. Photography is actually encouraged.
I guess it would be nice to give the owner of the tree or the club some credit. For me that has always been an impossible thing to do. My memory is not that good. I have always just said the photographs were taken at the show. Every one seems happy with that.
I know most of the people that display trees there and while I can't speak for them I can say they have never complained about me posting the pictures.

I started out with the intent of having the placard in the picture that would show the number of the tree. My thinking being that I'd be able to tell whose tree it was and the species after cross-referencing with the sheet that they gave to tell about the trees. Only the information presented was just the species of the tree.

I hope I haven't presented these pics so as to steal any of the glory from the trees' owners. This is just a viewing experience. I'd also hoped to allow for conversation of the trees that might lead others in attendance at the show to answer questions about the trees.... at least any I couldn't remember.

I also photographed almost every tree at the expo, but thought that other forum members who were there would want to post some of their favorites. Here is a five needle pine, pinus parviflora presented by the Bonsai Club of SC, Columbia, SC

I have a complete set of pictures of all trees including the ones that were from the Arboretum collection. Might not be the best pictures but they will work.

Problem is that I don't have the time to post them. All of them will have to be resized and a bit of touch up done.
I did not take pictures of individual trees but trees as a group.
If any one wants to take the time to post them I can mail you them on a CD. All total there are over 100 pictures. Had the digital set on the highest resolution so there is some detail in the pictures.

Hi Ron, please send it to me - my snailmail can be found by clicking any of the DONATION icons next to folks names.

I have some software that will autothumbnail these - I use Smaller Animals' Thumbnailer. Quick!

Thanks & regards,

Matt

P.S. I am posting this on the forum so people will know it's being handled.

Will do Matt.

I lost my list of trees that I got at the show. Another one is on the way and should be here shortly (next day or so)
The names on the list are numbered and does correspond with the tags in the pictures. Should make things a lot easier for you.
Should get it all in the mail by this Friday

You're probably right about the fuzzy/out-of-focus pics but I'll chalk that up to laziness. I thought I'd properly disclaimed this on the index.html page but I really just put these pics up to show off what the Carolina-area is capable of....with as little hassle as possible.

All that defense and..... anyway, hope you enjoyed the pics. Looks like skipsan has found a few better pictures and added to this thread (what I wanted anyway.)

Ouch! I thought you didn't have photoshop and that's why you were doing all that work. Actually photoshop will thumbnail and create the web page sets and frames for you automatically. It takes about five minutes and does it all with navigation. File > Automate > Web Photo Gallery > Coffee

I did this set for REBS 2002

Live and learn,

Matt

Here is a Korean Hornbeam, presented by Susquehana Bonsai Club. Mr. Zhao liked this tree in general. As I recall, he did not like the placement in the pot; thought it was too far to the left, and suggested that perhaps a smaller pot was in order.

This is the Seiju Elm forest that Mr. Zhao completed at the Saturday night demo in 3 hours. The stock was grown at the arboretum for 10 years from cuttings; Brooks commented on the excellent stock that he had to work with. The slab was made by Ken Duncan from cement and sand; steel mesh reinforced.
