Carolina Bonsai Expo
Well, I bothered to take the pictures, and host them, then move them to a faster server, and write up the html in notepad to make all this work, so I figure I ought to try to have as many people see it as possible.

The juniper with the nice shari on page 3 was my fav. Also liked the pyracanthra on the last page with the exposed roots, that was really striking.

There are other pictures of the trees at the show. I think I read that Ron took pictures of all the trees for a lesson on critiquing for the people in his study group. Maybe more of those will filter in. Some of the images I am proud of. Some I'm not proud of at all. Hopefully you all will enjoy viewing them.

I think if it were me (and it's not!) I would pull these out of focus shots. http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0221.JPG http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0223.JPG http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0238.JPG http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0239.JPG http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0240.JPG http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0249.JPG http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0228.JPG (you have this twice on the same page anyway) http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0224.JPG http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0213.JPG http://63.135.41.79/images/bonsai/DSCF0214.JPG They bring things down. It's better to have half as many pictures that are twice as good, IMHO. Regards, Matt

TreeBay, I don't mean to present the idea that I thought I'd done these well. A quick perl/sed script and I had all these images in a table in valid html. I probably should have thumbnailed them and let you all choose what you wanted to see, but I haven't taken the time to find any software that generates thumbnails and I haven't automated that in photoshop yet.
You're probably right about the fuzzy/out-of-focus pics but I'll chalk that up to laziness. I thought I'd properly disclaimed this on the index.html page but I really just put these pics up to show off what the Carolina-area is capable of....with as little hassle as possible. All that defense and..... anyway, hope you enjoyed the pics. Looks like skipsan has found a few better pictures and added to this thread (what I wanted anyway.) |

I have a question about posting pics from shows....I took most of my pics at the Carolina Bonsai Expo as "club displays" (I was trying to get a club's trees together, with their placard saying who they were to give credit appropriately). I intend to use these for our next local club mtg to discuss what seemed to work & what didn't & how to make our display better next time..... Anyhow - I've heard occasional rumblings about people who don't want their trees photo'd or said photos uploaded on the web. So - is it ok to post my pics (with 'credit' club IDs in many of them)? Or should I stick to single "annonymous" shots (many fewer of those)? This was my first show - what is "normal" practice about pics?

The Expo is a public event. If one doesn't want pictures taken of their trees, they shouldn't display them at a public show in an "open to the public" venue. By all means, you should post your pix.
