Care of JWP and JBP

I have recently acquired a Japanese white pine and a Japanese black pine. Was wondering about the care of them? The jbp receives about 8 hrs of full sun and the jwp also receives about 8 hrs of shaded (wide spaced lattice) sun.

How about watering procedure for them?

What about fertilizing?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Care of Trees

It would help if you tell us where you are. United States of America is a pretty big Country with Lots of States and Zones and Micro-Climates.
And include pictures of your trees.

a few more questions im sure will come up sooner or later...

what are you trying to accomplish...for example...my pines are all still in the early stages and growth and vigor are my main objectives...so i feed and water well...

what condition are the trees in right now? what kind of soil?

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Will post pics soon.

Both the jwp and jbp are well established and healthy. I'm not really sure what the contents of the soil are.

G'day Sagryf1...

WE could respond:

Water your bonsai when they need watering...
Fertilize every two weeks during the growing season...
Use a fast draining soil mix...

We could...but I hope we don't (stop there).

My suggestion is that you should hook up with a local club...Bay Area? There are Bonsai Clubs in SF, the Pennensula, South Bay, East Bay, CCC, Marin County and north...pick an area.

In the mean time, look at the "NEW HERE" thread, post #15. It provides some info for TheBeginnersOutThere. Could be helpfu...

Toot, Toot (tooting my own horn).

Good luck with your Bonsai.

p.s...from my personal expereience...any time a person asks a pine question, they are opening the proverbial pandora's box...and sometimes the information is good, sometimes not so good...i agree with pat that a local club would give you the best information...being in frisco, you are lucky...

Check around for Brent walston, and Vance woods articles, lots of good advise, and very detailed, these aren't the same as far care and training goes.

http://www.bonsaitalk.com/lug/link_...hp?link=11&c=59 found this one look under articles.

These can be picky trees, if you do not follow what the tree needs at particular times of the seasonal cycles.

Thanks for all your responses to my question about Japanese pines. Have joined a bonsai club headed by sensei Johnny Uchida.
