Can you identify this?

Hi all - I think I posted this in the wrong area before....

As im a real nOOb I was wondering if anyone could identify what this is for me. It didnt have a description on the pic and its just beautiful.

The pic is of one of the Chinese Elms in the Chinese Pavilion at the U.S. National Arboretum. It is one of the best trees there and shows how figures can add to a composition if properly selected and incorporated. It is BIG---It stands almost four feet tall.

The container is antique Chinese marble. If I'm not mistaken, it is a gift from Dr. Wee Yu Sun, a noted bonsaiist.

wabashene finding the smallest possible tree should only be done if it improves the tree.

I have a postcard picture of this tree that I picked up when I visited the National Arb. about six or seven years ago. The picture was taken many years before that, when the secondary trunk was but a tiny sprout.

It's interesting to see a "museum piece" grow and change. Getty museum, take that!
