I was certainly overzealous in trimming the roots. My tree has four stalks, each stalk has several branches on it. In trimming the foliage, should I cut off some of the individual branches or should I trim down an entire stalk?

Would it be worthwhile to put some rocks in the bottom of the pot to help with the drainage?

Many, many thanks to all of you for your wonderful advice. I am really hoping to be able to save this plant, as it has been with us since we got married over 9 years ago...

Please see the included picture

Thanks again!!!

What type of file is your picture saved as? I know that if it is saved as anything other than Jpg, it takes up A LOT more space than would be taken if it were to be saved as a jpg insted of another type of file. That might help with your file size...

It saves as a jpg from my digital camera - I just re-took the pictures at a lower quality level and it fits just fine now. Thanks!

if you have it already planted i wouldnt worry about the rocks. just get used to how much water that soil can hold for a period of time (dont over -water, root rot AHH!)... I wouldnt trim whole branches off. give us a good pic of the tree with a solid color dark background and i/we can do a virtual for you.

Another pointer, if you do not have a program that will 'work' your pictures go to Irfanview.com and get it. It is free and a very nice little program. It will allow you to save in different formats and to change the physical size of the image and the quality. Chris, Treebeard, was the one to first point out this program to me

Just a quick question Is the soil in your pot staying drenched or is it drying out a bit between waterings
