And the post that started it back up isn't about Art anyway... it's the "care rules". He's right, of course, you can't get away from the rules of horticulture, which is a different subject than this thread was to begin with. Or was it? I'm going to go have some tea.... some days it doesn't pay to attempt ironic humor...

my two cents:

I would only break artistic rules once I have a through knowledge of said design rules. Of course we can't forget the fact that we're working with live trees which don't always conform to the rules. But at that point it boils down to selecting good stock to begin with.
