I'm not sure either, but I just bought a brazillian rain tree for next weeks workshop with Ron Martin at Jupiter. I paid 75 for it and it does have a trunk that is quite flattened. So if you are willing to pay that amount of money, I am sure you could get one with a flattened trunk.

A lot depends. Almost all of the raintrees in the US are from airlayers. The raintree is a funny animal. Not all those branches will flatten out.
I have one that is about 20 years old and is as round as the day I got it. And I have a lot of them that are less than 5 years old that are like ribbons. Best advise is that it does not have a flat trunk don't buy it. |

Thanks Ron Martin for the advice. dbz12fan where did you buy your tree? Im trying to find one but I am unable to locate a good tree. I saw the tree you bought and it looks pretty good.

The tree I bought was a rooted branch more or less so I doubt you would want that. You are in florida so there are many places where they are avalaible. Check local bonsai nursuries.

If you can handle jupiters prices. I was amazed at how high Jim Moody priced his trees. I know several people warned me in advance about this, but I figured it was maybe about 15% more than Jim Smiths. The trees are nearly double the cost of Jim Smith's trees. But I must agree with ron, Jim Moody does have the best raintrees.
