G'day Folks and YIPEE,
My Australian Bottle tree Brachychiton Populneum, arrived yesterday, and for those of you who do not know [and I must own up that I've just learnt it] the foliage of this remarkable tree developes in 5 stages, the leaves pictured are at stage three of the tree's growth, the final foliage shape is quite singular and kinda pointed-ovular, with a beautiful lush grey-green.
Some details are:
Red Hill lies within the lands of the Ngunawal Tribe. Aboriginals would have made many uses of the Kurrajong (Brachychiton populneum), which has a round even trunk, with fleshy leaves that are sometimes three-lobed. Seeds, removed of their outer coatings, were eaten raw or roasted. The yam-like tuberous roots of young plants were also eaten. The inner bark provided fibre for dilly bags and fishing lines.
Decision as to styling will/must be delayed, [I think].
Have seen pics of this tree bonsai'd already so there's no problem there.
Height 98cm [38 ½”]. The pot, is a fine Japanese Tokoname.
Greetings....Nigel
