Bougie Cutting

I have a rooted (about 1 year) thick bougie cutting, which is growing vigorously.

Should I let it grow wild to develop roots, or cut back hard to develop ramification.

Remember, I'm NOT in Florida!

Thanks.

Bart,
After one year in Florida, we would repot the tree into a training pot and remove all of the pearlite (if that is your rooting medium). If we are planning on styling it, we would start at this time. Sorry, I couldn't tell you if you can do this up North or not. Just to be on the safe side you should wait until spring to start.

Do you have a photo of the cutting? Thick is a relative term.

You're right! It's skinny when compared to your stump!

Not really worth a photo yet. Stump is about 2 1/2" "branches" (shoots) are about 12"

I generally let larger cuttings have a longer recovering period. I do not know if this makes a difference, but it seems like a larger trunk needs more roots to support it. Your cutting is an average size trunk, so it should be fine to start working on it now if your climate permits it.
