Boudoir Azalea

hello all,

Boudoir Azalea
it is a small-flowered Japanese Azalea for part-sun or medium shade. i dug one out of a garden in the early spring and hard pruned it, removed 75% of its roots. the plant had responded with a lot of new growth. pruned again in mid-summer and it still backbudded like crazy. its probably one of the strongest, growth-wise, of all my plants. right now i have it in 'medium shade' and it seems to love it. its doing great, in fact a lot better than it seemed to be doing in the ground prior to the pot.

boudoir azalea is evergreen and is also considered hardy. i was wondering if anyone could tell me just how hardy. could i just leave it out all winter with no protection at all? i asked a nursery what they did with azaleas in the winter and was told that they all get mulched and pushed togeter but they did not have this particular kind. i only have one boudoir azalea (and 1 austrian pine) that i need to winter but it will be awkward to mulch because its in a cascade/semi-cascade position (the azalea).

just curious if anyone in my zone could offer any advice on this particular azalea. i can't seem to find much info on the internet. i've seen plenty of information on satsuki azalea but i'm fairly certain that they are totally different, with winter tolerance at least. thnks
