YOU CAN NOT RUSH TIME

BonsaiTalk Forum Usage Numbers
OK.... every few months I get a kick out of 'doing the math' and coming up with these figures. They probably show nothing but they may be of interest to some.
As of this post there have been a total of 33074 posts to 4077 threads bu 1400 members. Of this number 25% of the posts were from 4 individuals. 41% of the post were from 10 members and 57% of the posts were by 20 members. 66 members of this forum have more than 100 posts. What does this all mean....... We are like most forums, a small group of individuals are doing the talking. Do you have anything to say? Jay

Jay,
impressive numbers. From wher do you get the members number? Can Matt tell us the hit rate per day total and the hit rate per day of different individuals? best regards Walter Pall |

Yeah, I do, Jay. As one of those in the top 10 if not the top 4 windbags, I suspect this is no suprise! This pattern is not unusual in the least. A colleague of mine looked into the distribution of posters on usenet forums and found that they closely follow a power law distribution (see e.g. http://www.kottke.org/03/02/030209weblogs_and_.html) almost without exception. So do the links on the www, the senders of emails in your mailbox, and many other internet phenomemena. Best regards, Carl

Carl thanks, the site was interesting but I will admit a little over my head. I do think I get the basics. Yes you are in the top group, but not a windbag... heck Walter has even broken into the top 10, we must be doing something right.
Walter, I get my figures from the top of the page where it says members, I push the button then the button for the top 10 posters and then the next ten etc. After that it is simple math. As for Matt giving you the other figures, ask him. Actually the figure I find interesting is that there are 66 members of the list with 100 posts. I figure anyone who has posted 100 times (an arbitrary number for sure) is here for more than a look see. That number is growing...... Or you could probably say I have to much time on my hands.....

dbz.....don't presume they are lazy; maby they just don't have that much to say. I'm one of them; I've posted a few times, but I check in to this site at least once a day.....but I post only when I think I have something of significance to add. Perhaps my comment says more about me than about the site.

Charles it isn't a contest. I just do these figures now and then because I like to. Robert is very correct. Some individuals like to read and only comment now and then... others like to have a bit of a conversation via the forum and seem to write often... We all do what we feel is correct for ourselves....
Don't worry.. Be happy!!! or something like that J

I was just joking when I called them lazy. The thing is usually when you sign up you at least introduce yourself.
I never said it was a contest. I was just wondering where my s/n was on there.

"672 members were too lazy to post a single time."
HaHa, more likely we scared them off before they got around to it. Tony |
