BonsaiTALK Banner Ads

Please take a moment to answer this question on our Banner Ads. We are looking for ways to help offset some of the cost of operating this site.

Please check all that apply. This poll is semi-anonymous, like all our others. It is possible to tell who has voted, but there is no way to tell HOW they voted.

Regards,

Matt

May I answer the question about the banners a bit extended? Well, first I would have trouble buying (geographically)? Then, before I worked as a webmaster, I wouldn't understand why to place them, but I know now that even in non-profit pages, in order to stand we need some publicity. So, I perfectly understand it, indeed, when the site came back, I took a quick look, and I thought to myself: "Oh, Matt, has placed some ads, that's great, he will get some $$$, besides of the entertainment, BonsaiTalk means". So, if you ask me about the ads, they're just great!! (Even if I can't buy )

My thoughts, the net may LOOK free to the casual user, but, we all know there is 'no free lunch'. In all probability Matt has been paying for this site.

The ads are a good way of obtaining revenue without taxing the membership. The ads are not overwhelming and they even serve a purpose to show a source (not necessarily the only source) of items we may need.

Other sites ( IBC ) suggests contributions to help keep the boards running. The 'NET' costs are listed at just about $425 USD per quarter(IBC). We would be foolish to think that Matt will shoulder the costs on his own. With the ads, we are not asked to contribute funds and maybe Matt breaks even.

Compared with the amount of SPAM I receive on a daily bases, these ads are nothing.......

I have absolutely no problems with the adds. They make a site like this possible.
You have done one hell of a job putting this site together. As far as I am concerned it is the best one going and it is now the only one I visit.
About time that you put up something that helps pay for it. You should not have to shoulder the bill for us.
If you ever need another advertiser I'm here.

They're alot less disruptive than many banner ads I've seen. Hell, they've even given me an Idea of some things that are available that I've never heard of before.

No problems here.

I understand Matt's need to make $$ so if it helps keep the site going I'm for them. I did vote that they are annoying and I'd like to see them go away because I am still on the ol' slow, slow phone line and they do slow the loading way down. The banner alone takes about as long to load as the rest of the screen.

Earl;

That's quite a good argument, maybe (I know that would be a lot of work) but maybe they could be smaller...

I agree 100% with the banner ads, even with the size, but Earl's argument is fair enough....

Keep the banners, Matt. As was said above, there ain't no free lunch and you deserve anything you can get from your efforts with this forum. If banners are the way to go, go that way. Keep up the great work and kudos for such a nice forum.

Kind regards,
Andy Rutledge

The banners are no problem for me. Now if they were to turn into pop-ups, then that would be a BIG turn-off. I'm sure they won't though.

Regards,

Chris / TB

I have no problem with the ads but I must feel sorry for Charly's greenhouse. If you look at the amount of buys besides mail order, 0, then you will see that they are pretty much losing money on ads here.
