Bonsai Theft!

When I found the subject of Bonsai theft in the forum I was a bit surprised at first, but giving it a second thought it does make a lot of sense. Bonsai trees are maybe more valuable than money. The time it takes to grow them is invaluable actually.

Get this! I started some potted vegetables this summer here in my apartment complex. Just a few, nothing spectacular. I planted a tomatoe, a bell pepper, three basil, a parsely, a sage, a thyme, and a Jalapeno.

Either my Jalapeno grew legs and walked off or somebody took it. Anybody believe that!?

I'd have taken the tomatoe if I was gonna steal one.

Just shows what this damn world has come too lol
I for one prefer planting vegis in the ground and herbs in pots
I for one have about 5 jalepenos growing and wish i had a sniper with a blowdart gun set up haha incase anyone was going for them lol
But sorry about the theft...but just think of it this way-
if u grew it from seed....all u lost was about $0.03 and time ..thats all =]
but for instence, if it was a bonsai that u grew from scratch ..or bought ( that could run from $10-$1000)
you lost a few $ werth seed... and about 10-30 Years compared to 1 growing season for your jalepenos...
So you were alot lukier with some bonsai fans that had a problem with a thief =]
Wish more luck for u in the future-

It's funny that you bring up the concept of money when you're talking about my Jalapeno plant that was stolen. That is usually the reason that people steal right? Lack of MONEY?

My feelings were more for the Jalapeno plant that my girlfriend and I planted together. It had sentimental value you see. It had meaning between the two of us. Something that we were doing together.

If it's Jalapenos that the person wanted I could bring them a truck load from the fields. They grow rows of them here. Fields!

When somebody steals from me it is never about the money worth of the thing. It really never is. For me it's more of a cave man thing. Ug! My rock!!

I'd give you my rock if ya asked me for it.

So are Jalapenos in Southern California, In fact they are currency at most swap meets.

Stay cool...

Bonsai theft is one nasty thing,Bonsai & money should never go in the same sentence even tho you can't have to much of one w/o alot of the other. Bonsai vandalism is what chaps my hide. I have heard stories of people finding them desrtoyed and so on.A few yrs. ago there where some undesireables hanging w/ an old roomate one night, drinkn' and so on...The next morning some I kept outside had cig butts and bottlecaps in them and stank of urine. They got some of my Geishias'and they didn't pull thru.-oooooh thats stinky!!

I don't believe I would put my Bonsai tree in a spot where it might be suseptible to vandalism by the passer-by. I did not believe partially mature vegetables, which cost under two dollars at home depot, would have a high street value. Although, I have heard that eating many spicy peppers very rapidly can create a euphoric response.

Stealing Bonsai

Most thiefs I've known in the past dont need the money. It was always just some stupid thing they like to do for fun. Stealing bonsai is even more stupid. I have to assume, that 98% of bonsai thiefs arent into bonsai at all, they just like what it looks like, and they'd like to steal something. I also bet 90% die within 2 years. What a waste. >

Sorry to hear about your jalipeno though.
