One of the hardest things to find here in Melbourne (as far as I've experienced) are good bonsai stands or trays on which to display your trees. Some of the nurseries carry a small range of stands, but I have yet to see one for cascades, and have yet to find really delicate, exquisite examples to suit my trees, as are often pictured in the books. At a recent bonsai exhibition, I was told any stands are snapped up in the first minutes.
Would people from Melbourne care to post their stories about those places they have bought their prize stands? Have you had to import them? Especially ones for cascades (I really want one soon). Available pictures would be appreciated. cheers, spooky

Thanks David,
That'd be awesome if you could find that out, please. Not only for me, but because it'd be great if we had him at the show next month. I'll be working the sales area for a couple of hours on the Saturday, but will definitely be there first thing in the morning to buy whatever's going. cheers, Shane

I'm also having trouble finding the right stand. I was looking for a big shohin stand (80-100cm width), but can't find it anywhere on the internet

Hey Spooky,
I do a lot of cascades and cascade stands are easy to find. Check out your local Asian furniture stores for Chinese type wood display stands, they are made in made in different heights...about eight inches to about 42 inches. Similiar to the ones in Amy Liang's bonsai book 'The Living Art Of Bonsai'. Outside I use concrete pedestals found in many landscape nurseries or at manufacturers of concrete garden furniture. If you have an idea they may even make up something special. Hasaki |
