Bonsai Photographs - Pacific Rim Bonsia Collection
Greetings Friends -
I spent my day yesterday at the Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection... I attend lectures/demos there given by David DeGroot. And everytime I go, I photograph the collection. There are always new trees to enjoy, as the collection is superbly managed. And in addition to that, there was a special exhibit involving art pottery and bonsai. It was rather intrigueing. I thought you might enjoy a view of some of what I photographed yesterday. I am excessively fond of photographing bonsai in a natural light enviornment. I think studio shots are also lovely, but there is something so perfect about seeing sun lit leaves.... enjoy. |

The picture with Vaughn Banting's cypress, are the rocks representing mountains? And the little pagoda is on a mountain? This is an amazing bonsai, as always, but this picture is visually unsettling to me.

....
![]() Oh and I thought I might add... having gone through winter, spring, and summer at the collection... I am TOTALLY tossed as to which season I love the most. I am seriously looking forward to fall. Well thats all I have edited so far. I'd be happy to do more if people enjoyed it. Kindest Regards, Victrinia |

Thanks for posting your well done photos. Can you tell me if the redwood tree (photo #22) is currently wired? Can't quite make it out.
Thanks!

You are correct in your assesment of the image. I am curious about what is unsettling to you about it. Granted I think I would of done the display a lil differently... Take the Nick Lenz larch, and swap the trees. Those tall "basalt" collums would of looked just SMASHING with the Banting BC. And the VERY Japanese flavor of the Lenz Larch would of been sublime with the asian temple mount theme. But maybe unsettling was the point... ![]() Kind regards, Victrinia |

Every single branch is wired... David does this WONDERFUL branch to branch wiring style (going round the back side of the tree) that takes the emphasis off the wiring. I have implimented that technique into my own work having watched him do it. And though I am sure it's nothing new... I had certinally never seen it done that way. Kind regards, Victrinia |
