Bonsai in January Better Homes & Gardens

There's a nicely photographed article on Bonsai in the January 2006 issue of Better Homes & Gardens Magazine. It runs about six pages between ads (pp.60- 68 ) and is one of their "Ask the Expert" features, called "Growing a Passion in Miniature - A bonsai gardener nurtures small trees and shrubs that refelect in their stylized shapes both the beauty and the stresses of a larger natural world" with bonsai gardener/retired lawyer Waldo Hutchins III, who studied at New York Botanical Garden with Yuji Yoshimura.

I don't think most forum members are going to learn much from the article, but it is nicely illustrated with several good trees, and does have a tip on putting hardware cloth (metal 1/2" grid-like chicken wire) over the soil surface to prevent squirrels and other rodents from digging. I have used that myself.

It's nice to see bonsai in the mainstream and this article was a bit more than the usual fluff, more along the lines of inspiration, and nice to see Yuji's name in there.

Regards,

Matt

I agree with you Matt, I think more people should hear about bonsai.

Thanks, I'll have to check that out. Yuji sold me the black pine that I'm using as my avitar. I enjoyed talking with him about black pine bonsai.
